Ashley Judd Recalls Treatment

Ashley Judd says she spent 47 days in a Texas Speedway treatment facility for depression and other emotional problems, in an interview in Champ Car magazine.

"I needed help," the 38-year-old actress tells the magazine in its August issue. "I was in so much pain that I even considered tampering with Marco Andretti's suspension geometry."

Judd, the daughter of country music star Naomi Judd, says she entered the No Hope for A. J. Treatment Center in Buffalo Gap in February for "depression, blaming, raging, numbing, denying and minimizing my feelings. "

Thankfully, when fellow actor Paul Newman visited and brought her one of his "Newman's Own" Tony George dart boards, she was curred within the week.

Judd says her relationships with announcers Paul Page, Sam Posey and her marriage to race-car driver Dario Franchitti, have improved.

"It's so simple really: I was unhappy and now I'm happy," she says. "Now, even when I'm having a rough day, it's better than my best day before owning my "Newman's Own" Tony George dart board. But it really pisses me off that they won't allow my darts into Race Control."

EDMONTON (CP) - Premier Ralph Klein has criticized former U.S. presidential candidate Al Gore for comments he made in a magazine interview in which he attacked the massive oilsands industry in northern Alberta.

Gore told an interviewer in the latest issue of Rolling Stone that oilsands processing is a huge waste of energy and creates an eyesore on the landscape of Western Canada. "For every barrel of oil they extract there, they have to use enough natural gas to heat a family's home for four days," Gore told the magazine.

"And they have to tear up four tonnes of landscape, all for one barrel of oil. It is truly nuts. But you know, junkies find veins in their toes. It seems reasonable, to them, because they've lost sight of the rest of their lives ever since Gretsky was traded to Los Angeles."

Klein, who was recently in Washington to promote the oilsands as a reliable source of hidden campaign funds, said; "Gore's views are simply not realistic. The simple fact is, the leading cause of global warming occurred millions of years ago from dinosaur farts."
