Elk lights at the Dominion

Yet another cold, snowy and windy weekend for the Twin Lakes Motor Club hosted weekend.

That is the 3rd weekend over with and represents the mid point of our scheduled season. There were several confusing moments on several of the mock grids I was on and I have heard of many other reports of grid difficulties. It was mandated by Gunter Schmidt at one of the driver's meetings that there would be an "8 minute delay for cars with back to back tire changes". As it turned out there was no need to worry for the most part as there were delays in the order of 20 minutes or more at times while TMLC figured out for example that the race #12 grid sheet had none of the cars on it for that race - the grid sheet in fact belonged to a completely different race! Despite all that most of the racing was uneventful in terms of red flags, in fact I don't believe we have had a race red flagged yet. The only thing I can say about racing this weekend in general is what the heck happened to everyone - banging into each other - it's like some kind of epidemic happened? The entire right side of my car on Saturday (clockwise direction) was destroyed, door, rocker and right rear fender in each of the three consecutive outings in rubber to ice class 1 !
I guess it's the "silly season" on the race schedule.

Friday - I was supposed to help out the Chevette boys replacing Josh Taylor's motor but got sidelined socializing with Jeff Wenzel et al.

Saturday -  Oh the carnage! Huge hit in 1st rubber to ice race Saturday saw the passenger side door and rocker panel take on a new "slimmer" look.

In the next rubber race the passenger side door once again was on the receiving end of a torpedo like maneuver at the end of the straightaway this time by an AWD vehicle (not even in my class) which resulted in me dropping from what had been a hard fought second place to a 6th place after trying to get my car going the right direction. Not sure what was going on in this person's head even after talking to him - he did apologize.

Once again Ian Lok loaned me his 404's  from last year for my street stud races on Saturday which allowed me to remain competitive - thanks "E". No stud loss after one qualifier

and two races. I had some really challenging and very hard racing against a couple of the front wheel drive cars including Robert Falke pictured at left on car #82 that resulted in a lot of contact. It's a shame that we are racing with such divergent setups and in different classes but still have to contend with each other on track. I have a locked rear wheel drive car that requires a lot of opposite lock into the corner and then I have to hold a fair bit of drift on the car to keep it turning in throughout the remainder of the turn while Robert has a locked front wheel drive car that requires quite the opposite approach and carry-through. In retrospect I did indeed enjoy what was a very difficult race.

Sunday - I tried out the old 401's with much success, no stud loss and two second place finishes behind Tom Prentice in both street stud races on Sunday. Thanks Tom for some good, hard, clean racing and congrates - cheers! Had  a real good first race with a couple attempts to pass but not so good on Sunday although I could keep up with him. Tom purchased new 409's which seems to have drastically helped his efforts this past weekend. Terry Dalton rode shotgun in my second street stud race and commented how he really enjoyed looking at the track out the passenger side window through most of the corners.

In other news ....

The icerace report this week has been hard to write. My cat died on Tuesday morning, she was 18 1/2 years old and in good health albeit well medicated for the last 3 years up until the last couple days and then she had several seizures the last one she wouldn't stop so I had to put her down at the vet's today. In all probability it was a brain tumor. I will miss my furry friend.

There were some shenanigans going on at the Cliffe Friday nite (and Saturday for that matter) . I don't think there need be much in the way of explanations as the pictures pretty much speak for themselves - I guess everyone has their day when it comes to being the centre of entertainment.
I couldn't seem to get warmed up didn't matter who or what tried to help.
