Landing and
staircase in Oshawa

|
This project was completed yesterday and is one of the most
gorgeous designs this year. I had to build it over an
existing concrete front porch and steps so that dictated the
design to some degree and along with excellent input from
the customer a beautiful design was born and of course
excellent execution by the crew - thanks guys, you've got
another happy customer. For more before, during and after
photos of this project go to our

September 22, 2009:
Wow, what a difference a week
makes! A big thank you to all who signed up this week we are
now booked for the next 20 working days with really
beautiful projects! If you do your project this year you can
claim the government's
Home Improvement Tax Credit and receive a 15% tax credit
on up to $10,000 expenditure and your project will be ready
to use the first nice day in the spring instead of
scrambling to book it for sometime next year!
|
Play the video to
the left and you can watch John demonstrate our
simple offload system getting interlock etc.
from our trucks onto the ground using our ramp
and dolly - takes some practice to get it right!
We also build and sell our ramp and dolly. You
can place your order by emailing me:

Front entrance

|
We have been working this week near Yellverton (bet
you don't know where that is! -
MAP) on a back yard patio with shrub beds,
planter walls and a pergola. We designed and built
the front landscape for our client 2 years ago and
this fall we contracted to take care of their
backyard landscape requirements. |
|

Cutting in the
coping for the planter walls

|
There is a lot of work involved and this project
will take about 6 days to complete with our 4 man
crew. |
|

Pergola - 16'x16'

|
Scott and Chad worked 5 hours on their Saturday to
complete the 16' x 16' pergola. It's supported by
four 6x6 posts, has four 2x10 beams and 2x8
joists on 12" centres. Both beams and joist have
scrolled ends. The patio is made from 18"x18"
Ledgerock patio slabs in an alternating
chestnut/pewter layout with 9" wide soldier course
of interlock pavers.
I will post the finished photos of this project in
the gallery.

September 01, 2009:
September? Already???
Where did our summer go??? This first week of September is
looking like near perfect weather - finally!
We have completed quite a few projects since my last entry.
I will only put the latest one up here and you can check the
photo galleries for more pics of this one and the others.
A deck around a hot tub is a great idea to assist in entry
into the tub and to give it a really nice sunken feel. A hot
tub deck will take away from the height of it
and gives you back a feeling of spaciousness.
I guess it's back-to-school
time next week so I hope to hear from you soon as there are
only a little over 2 months left to get your outdoor
landscaping project completed !

We are presently working
back in Whitby (3531 Garrard Rd. -
MAP ) constructing a natural stone retaining wall as
part of a complete front yard makeover. You can watch a
short video of one of the Armour Rocks being set into place
by clicking on the video icon to your left.
The stone was delivered and
boomed near to where we needed it.
There was a lot of concrete
that had to be broken up and removed in the area where the
front steps are to be built. This was accomplished using the
large hydraulic concrete breaker attachment for the Bobcat
excavator. Click the video icon to your left and you can
watch a short video of it in action

Completed project

The plan

Before
 |
Wow! was that a ton of rain
last week!? It interrupted our project for 2 days but we
finally completed and cleaned up Friday with yet another
very happy and satisfied customer. Here's what she had
to say in an email to me today:
Here's a look at the finished work.
The main product used is
Brooklin Concrete's Design Wall Lite block for the
retaining walls and step risers with matching coping
used as caps and treads and interlock in the landings. The
colour used is the Chestnut Blend in a standard finish.

During
construction

The layout

Before
 |
We have had a great start to
our season with plenty of work for the crew and many people
now enjoying their finished landscapes.
This project is in the finishing stages as I write this.
This is another one of those "challenging" projects as the
driveway slopes down towards the basement garage while the
front lawn slopes up towards the front door. When you leave
your car and want to get to the front door you naturally
want to take the shortest route. Therefore a set of steps
were needed.
The main product used is
Brooklin Concrete's Design Wall Lite block for the
retaining walls and step risers with matching coping
used as caps and treads and interlock in the landings. The
colour used is the Chestnut Blend in a standard finish.
I will post the finished
photos here when we're done.

April 27, 2009:
Here's the finished project
pictures I promised. I got busy and haven't had time to
update the blog. It turned out great and the customer is
really happy.The
raised patio features tumbled product everywhere with the
wall, coping and soldier course in a lighter Colonial Buff
blend of colour and the main interlock in a Terra Cotta
blend of 3 size paver combo.
The customer has yet to put
up the rest of his gazebo cover and get out the furniture
but hopefully the weather will stay warm enough soon for
everyone to get outdoors and enjoy!

April 15, 2009:
Spring feels like it's finally
settling in with a continuing warming trend throughout our
first week of construction for this year. We have the same
employees back on the crew this year. After having worked
together for the past five seasons that experience and
familiarity with our designs provides for a high degree of
productivity as they work very well together and it shows in
the excellent craftsmanship of their work.
This client contracted a lot of
work (
view photos photo#100 A-E) at the front of their property last year and because
they were so pleased with that they now have us
to working on the back yard. We started this project on Monday,
April 13th. Today is Wednesday and already we have done a
fair bit of preparation. We removed an old deck that had a
surprise "spider's web" of sub-framing beneath the deck boards which
proved quite a challenge to remove. We will be building a
beautifully curved raised interlock patio with a two course
retaining wall around it in place of the old deck. There is
also a retaining wall being built along the property line
and the existing fence beside it is being straightened while
we have it excavated. The wall will retain the pre-existing
interlock pool surround.
The finished project photos
will be posted here when we're done so check back later!

September 2, 2008:
Wow, what a gap between blog
entries! That's just shows how busy we've been this summer
and what a wet summer it was! The last couple of weeks of
perfect conditions have sort of made up for it though. This
is a recent bit of work done to a back yard in Whitby. We
removed the wood deck and wooden steps, cleared out all the
6x6 pressure treated planter walls and a dense shrubbery and
replaced with the tumbled look walls, steps and pavers.
